05.06.2008 - Fast Enough for You?!
Here's the first part of what we promised earlier this evening: added to the Featured Articles page, a review of The Republic Tigers' debut LP, Keep Color, out today on Chop Shop Records. Go check it out!
05.06.2008 - More to Come
The Great Kate Nash Giveaway has officially ended! Thanks to those who submitted. We'll try to have some more great giveaways for you soon. Later in the week: new album reviews, as well as massive updates to the Shows page. As well as, perhaps, an additional surprise or two!
04.22.2008 - Earth Day Update!
While we can't give you those solar window panels or electric car you've been coveting, we CAN give you a unique update - another true first here at Cheap Shot! Philly. An oft-overlooked part of the city's cultural landscape, independent wrestling is one phenomenon which has consistently flourished in the City of Brotherly Love for the past couple decades. In the current pack, there is a truly entertaining force in CHIKARA - an Allentown-based promotion which runs monthly shows in South Philly. Check out the review of this past Sunday's show here and, if you like athleticism, excitement, laughter, and fun, check out CHIKARA. It's a great way to spend an afternoon or evening, even if you're not a wrestling fan!
04.19.2008 - Big Interview Posted / Contest
Cheap Shot! scored an interview with Joe Jack Talcum, currently of The Low Budgets and The Cheesies, and formerly, of course, of The Dead Milkmen. Joe's been a very important part of the Philly music scene, and this interview with him covered many of his numerous projects and, we hope, provided some insight into various musical, well...things. Seriously, it's an entertaining read, as Joe is a very intelligent and entertaining guy. If you aren't familiar with him, what are you waiting for? Go read the interview! On the Features. Here's the direct link. Also, we have a big contest coming up this week. Stay tuned to the site in the next couple days for details!
04.03.2008 - Spring Forward!
With an update, of course. We've got a review up from last week's Say Anything show at The TLA / Fillmore / Whatever-You-Call-It-Now. Go read it!
03.23.2008 - Happy Easter, Candy Day, or Sunday!
Hope it's a good one for you! We've got some important updates today. First of all, we'd like to welcome Cara, the newest addition to the Cheap Shot! Philly staff. Over on the featured articles page is her first offering - a review of Nightmare of You's recent show at The Troc Balcony. In addition to that, we've got the latest edition of Tom Stoebenau's Snarcissist column. And then, finally, we've changed around a few things. First off, we've gotten rid of the forum, as it was becoming spam-filled and was basically just not being used, period. Except, of course, to propagate the sale of Warcraft money in the real world - a practice some of us do NOT agree with! We've changed the About page into a standard, yet effective Contact page. Apart from that, you'll notice the "Guide to Philly" link in the header area of the page. What does it mean? You'll find out soon enough.
03.20.2008 - It's Almost the Weekend...
...But our work has not ceased! Rest assured, the "big updates" we spoke of last time are on their way. In the meantime, we've updated the elusive Shows page which, you'll notice, has been kept surprisingly up-to-standard and current! Also, there's another edition of Jesus Soup, if that's your thing. We'll have some concert-related updates soon, NOT in the form of an Upcoming Shows list. Check back with us regularly to find out what that needlessly ambiguous sentence really meant.
03.11.2008 - A Helping of "Soup"
That bum, Mr. McElvaney, is back (finally) with his third edition of Jesus Soup. This time around, he looks at one of his favorite pastimes. Keep an eye out, Cheap Shot! loyalists, because there's big stuff coming. (That's what she said.)
03.09.2008 - Upcoming Shows
Finally! And there are a lot of 'em, folks. Head on over to the Shows page for more info.
